The littlest hands in all the land

Putting on these TINY HANDS today. I wouldn't mind a pair of new wrists myself right about now.

I'll be advising my armature that even though it seems unnecessary now, it would be wise to invest in an ergonomic mouse and do wrist circles daily, and just take my word for it. Because I made you and I said so and you'll thank me someday. Buddy.

Life drawing in RVA

Since moving to Richmond last year, I've been getting back on the figure drawing train at the Visual Arts Center.

Things I don't like:
-No food, no booze (Except the time one of the regulars brought ice-cream bars. That day was AWESOME)
-No Jenelle
-Not enough short poses

Things I do like:
-It's on Fridays
-Good variety of models
-Can always get a good view
-Many easel options (I like the art horse)

hey look an art horse

IT'SBEENAWHIILE

Oh hey there, Blog. Long time no blog. I thought it would be true to form to have my first post after a year-long hiatus be another series of Inktobers, posted long after October has ended.

Sonoran Sonoran Sonoran

Sonoran is now public on Vimeo. Have a look!

Thanks to everyone, everyone, EVERYONE who made this thing possible and gave me money and supplies and time and talent and ideas and and technical support and emotional support. Especially my badass DP Jenelle, and all the poor souls who had to live with me during production.

It was everything I wanted it to be. And now it's time to start something new.

Where have you been?

I flatter myself that you are asking this question.

Since I last posted, I have been in NYC, Virginia, NYC, Montreal, NYC, Virginia, Montreal, NYC, Montreal, Virginia, NYC, Boston, NYC, and now again Virginia.
It looked like this.
I came back to NYC from Montreal to animate for my friend Zack Handler on what promises to be a really beautiful film called Pariatha. It is part stop-motion, part live-action, and we had a great lil crew for the stop motion part (Me, Zack, and the talented Mitchell Zemil)  Zack draws some really wild creatures, and it was super cool to work with him and see how he imagined them moving. We had ball and socket armatures covered in clay, and we animated almost entirely on ones.

Also, while I was in Boston, I decided to learn Maya. Here's what I did to Batman when I tried that:

In other news, a film I did stop-motion for two years ago is making the rounds at festivals. We had a fantastic team of people working on this, and everyone really busted their asses on it so it's exciting to see how well it turned out! In fact, it has been nominated for a Student Academy Award this year in the alternative category. Winners are announced on August 24th, also known as Monday.

It is called Girl in the Chair and was directed by a man with a vision named Louis Gordon. Have a look at the teaser:
